I attempted to describe this process, but … wow, that is beyond my ability.
Me, a person who can’t pay attention to anything that doesn’t have visuals for more than 3 minutes without being bored/distracted:
hi! sorry to derail your post I have the same problem as you but ive found ways to listen to podcasts without mr. adhd kicking my ass
basically my strategy is to do something mundane that wont distract from the podcast
this can be anything from grinding in an mmo to knitting
they are also good to listen to at times where you would be pretty bored anyways like while you’re doing chores.
I personally like to listen when I’m walking home from school, although i look like a fool just laughing to myself in public…
hope this helps!
I clean while listening! Or while I’m on transit, and I play a mindless phone game while doing it.
I will also say that it got easier for me? As someone with ADHD, it was SO HARD at first but it really was like learning a skill, and now I’m so deep in podcasts and so happy about it.
I really thought that podcasts were something I was never going to be able to enjoy, and I’m so glad I was wrong. I believe in you all, good luck!
There are lots of other media. It’s okay to skip a few things. Some podcasts and audio books are amazing, but I still have an incredibly hard time listening. I’m not sure if it will ever be easy.
If you WANT to listen, I have advice too. I’ve got AD(H)D, just like Ziggy, and some auditory processing issues.
I managed at first by listening with someone. I found that the ability to talk to the other person, and watch their reactions to the story, kept me focused.
I then found that podcasts about special interests helped. Jay and Miles X-Plain the X-Men is the first one I managed to listen to alone. Things you are really, really interested in might keep you focused, at least mostly.
It’s also helpful to avoid stories, and stick with discussion-based podcasts. If you miss a few words – or a few minutes – you can often still follow what’s happening.
Who’s talking is really important, too. I can usually tell within a few minutes if someone’s voice isn’t going to keep me engaged. I don’t even try, if that’s the case.
OH! One more thing. Some podcasts have Visual Companions! Comics podcasts frequently have panels/characters they talk about, Under the Influence usually has the ads/commercials he’s discussing, etc. So, every few minutes, they’ll mention something that has a counterpart in the companion. You might be able to keep the companion open, and use it to help you focus!
I can’t say enough how much I miss this Tim—someone who is compassionate and human enough to let himself mourn the death of a victim he never knew, more willing to let that wall down than Bruce is, but who also steps back and gets down to the business of bringing his killer to justice. Too often Tim gets written only as the “work” part, and not the person he can be under his mask.
Robin Annual #7
This is my Timmy
[Image shows Tim in his red and black Robin costume. His narration reads, “I give myself five seconds to let the horror wash over me. Five seconds to feel this man’s death. Then I get to work.”

… I read this as ‘pseudo-phallus titan’ and thought, “of COURSE Ad is reblogging the giant fake penis, Ad LOVES giant fake penises. There are much more penis-y shaped bugs, though.”
