I do this thing where if i have to go to a family event where I will be expected to be a girl I pretend I am a SPY and I am IN DISGUISE AS A TEEN GIRL and my mission is to EXTRACT INFORMATION FROM MY GRANDPARENTS without giving away my real identity. works every time.
your dress and makeup is now a DISGUISE
your ‘birth name’ is now an ALIAS
getting told by your parents to be nice and not yell at anyone being racist is MISSION BRIEFING
your entire extended family are now FOREIGN DIGNITARIES and you gotta make it thru the evening without being discovered as a RADICAL SPY
carrying a small water pistol and one of those fake-lipstick pens in your purse helps to get in the zone. the best part of being a spy is the nifty gadgets everyone knows that.
BONUS if you have to bring a friend of another gender with you to pretend to be your boyfriend. you are both PARTNER SPIES and one of you has to be the cranky but soft-hearted veteran and the other has to be the endearingly-assholeish rookie.
Seems like actually a great way to deal with dysphoria
it’s also a great way to deal with social anxiety. i get through socialising outside my comfort zone by treating it like cosplay.
[Image is a panel from a comic book with Logan and Laura Kinney incognito. Both are wearing black clothes and dark sunglasses. Logan is rubbing his neck uncomfortably. A metal detector and guard are in the foreground. Text:
I suspect they’ve used up that comics allowance on Moore and the others in that one episode (I was sure surprised to hear he’s a fan, but I suppose he’d appreciate them pissing off Bush Sr.), and more importantly, they couldn’t top what Gail Simone already did:
Based on what I’ve heard, this is a reasonably true-to-life depiction of their relationship.

Those who cannot conceive Friendship as a substantive love, but only as a disguise or elaboration of Eros, betray the fact that they have never had a Friend
WARNINGS: Non Consensual drug use, Non Consensual touching, Non Consensual kissing, humour, slight mayhem
SUMMARY: Dick goes undercover as himself in order to catch a gang of international thieves. Jason reluctantly tags along as his long suffering bodyguard. During the ensuing mayhem they get to know each other again and build a few bridges.
Thank you to burkesl17 for the beta!
Notes: An embarrassingly long time ago, the amazing and very, very talented Pentapus invited me to do a reverse bang style exchange, and drew me an amazing prompt. I have no idea how this story was the one that emerged from the many options I had, but such is the creative process I guess! Anyhoo, many thanks to Pentapus for both encouragement and patience, and of course the incredible art! (which will be included at the end of the appropriate chapter)
This first chapter is ridiculous and I’m having a blast. I love how Mik writes characters. Most stories are from Jason’s point of view, and the world through his eyes is always fascinating. The pining for Dick that rarely leads anywhere makes me antsy, but Mik is one of the few authors that do Plot that engages me. Such good plot. It’s more than worth it. Stories may tend towards the darker side, though so far this one hasn’t reached anything suggested by its tags. It’s only been fun. I don’t really have enough good words for Mik. There are undercover shenanigans! Jason uncomfortably remembering good times with Bruce! Alcohol snobbery!
Up until now, Claudette St. Croix was the only autistic mutant in the X-Men canon
that I was aware of, but I found another canonically-diagnosed
character! Laura Dean aka Pathway! Her entry on the Marvel Wiki is
linked, so you can read all about her there. A few things of note:
–
She’s a black woman! As I noted with Claudette, that’s
surprising/awesome to me because every other depiction of autism that
I’ve seen in media has been a white male.
– It says “Pathway,
for a time, was autistic” so it might be that she’s…not autistic
now? Obviously in the real world, autism does not go away, but Marvel
isn’t great at writing autism (Claudette just stood around in
catatonic silence until suddenly using her powers when necessary,
basically) The art looks like she’s from the early 90s, which doesn’t
give me much hope for how well her “autism” was portrayed.
–
It’s interesting that her power is dimensional portals, because that
was one of Claudette’s most notable super-powers as well.
